How much is the Commission?
What Is Your Commission?
ChefMaison's commission depends on two things: your country, and whether you have a valid VAT number registered as a business. Here's how it breaks down.
Commission rates by country
Region | With a valid VAT number (Business) | Without a valid VAT number (Individual) |
|---|---|---|
European Union (except Netherlands & Italy) | 15% | 18.15% |
Netherlands | 18.15% | 18.15% |
Italy | 7.5% | 9.1% |
United Kingdom | 0% | 0% |
Outside the EU (except UK) | 18.15% | 18.15% |
Why does it vary?
If you're registered as a business and your VAT number is validated in the EU system, ChefMaison can apply the VAT reverse-charge mechanism for cross-border transactions — meaning no VAT is added to your commission, and you handle your own VAT reporting locally. This is why validated businesses in most EU countries pay a lower rate (15%).
If you don't have a valid VAT number, ChefMaison has to account for VAT on our end instead, which is why the rate is a bit higher (18.15%) to cover that.
A few countries work a bit differently:
- Netherlands: Since ChefMaison is also based in the Netherlands, this isn't a cross-border transaction, so the reverse-charge doesn't apply — the rate stays the same either way.
- Italy: Chefs in Italy benefit from a reduced commission structure.
- United Kingdom: Commission is always 0%, regardless of VAT status.
- Outside the EU: The reverse-charge is an EU-specific mechanism, so it doesn't apply — the rate stays the same either way.
Where do I see my exact commission?
Before you confirm any booking or order update in the app, you'll see the exact commission that applies — so there are no surprises when your payout comes through.
How do I get the lower rate?
Add your VAT number in the app under Profile → VAT/Tax Status. We validate it against VIES, the official EU VAT database. Once it's confirmed valid, the lower commission rate is applied automatically going forward.
