Creating a Stripe Account
To receive your payouts, ChefMaison uses Stripe to securely handle payments and transfers. Setting up Stripe correctly is essential for getting paid — here's the complete walkthrough, from connecting your account to two-step verification.
What is Stripe?
Stripe is a globally trusted payment platform used to securely process client payments and transfer your earnings. All payouts for ChefMaison bookings are handled exclusively through Stripe.
Before you start: check your profile's country: go to your profile → Personal info → CountryThis is an important step that cannot be easily changed later.
When you first register with ChefMaison, the country you select is used to create your Stripe account. Once the Stripe account has been created, changing your country in your ChefMaison profile does not automatically change the country of your Stripe account.
Therefore, make sure you select the correct country during your initial ChefMaison registration, before you start the Stripe setup.
The country should correspond to the country under which you are eligible to receive payments and provide your services. Depending on your situation, this may be the country where your business is registered or another country supported by Stripe for your specific setup.
So before connecting Stripe, go to your profile → Personal info → Country and make sure it's correct.
This should be the country where you have your business registered, or where you'll be performing your services. If this is wrong, Stripe may set up your account incorrectly from the start.

If the Stripe setup is showing a different country from the one you need, please contact the ChefMaison Support team before completing the setup. You may not be able to change the Stripe country directly through the ChefMaison app, and changing your country in your ChefMaison profile afterwards will not update an existing Stripe account.
Step 1: Get to the Stripe connection screen
- Open the app and go to You (your profile).
- Tap Earnings & payment settings.
- Tap Connect Stripe (or Manage Stripe account if you've already started this before).
Step 2: Log in or create your Stripe account
If you already have a Stripe account: log in with your email. Important: use the same email you registered with as a ChefMaison chef — this keeps everything properly linked.
If you don't have a Stripe account yet: tap Create an account, enter your email, and create a password.
In the web version, go to: Finance, Payment details.
Step 3: Set up two-step verification
Stripe will ask you to set up two-step authentication to keep your account secure. Here's how:
- Step 1 — Download an authenticator app. Popular options include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy. (We recommend Google Authenticator — it's simple and works well.)
- Step 2 — Connect Stripe to your authenticator app. You have two options:
- Scan the QR code shown on screen using your authenticator app, or
- Enter the setup key manually — Copy this code, open the Google Authenticator, tap to add a new entry, and choose "Enter a setup key", then paste in the code shown on the Stripe screen. Then click in add.
- You can Save this code somewhere safe — you may need it again.

- Step 3 — Enter your verification code. Every time you log in to Stripe, you’ll be asked to enter a verification code from Google Authenticator.
- Open the Google Authenticator app and find your Stripe verification code. The code changes every 30 seconds, so make sure you enter the current code shown in the app.
- Enter the code on the Stripe page, then tap Next..
Step 4: Save your security/recovery code
After setting up two-step verification, Stripe will show you a security code. Save this somewhere safe — this is your backup way back into your account if you ever lose access to your phone or authenticator app. Without it, regaining access can be much more difficult, so don't skip this step.
Step 5: Create your connected account
Once your Stripe account is set up and verified, the next step is creating your connected account — this is what actually links your Stripe account to ChefMaison so you can receive payments. As mentioned above, this pulls its configuration automatically from the country set in your profile, so double-check that's correct before continuing.
Adding your VAT / tax information
Once your Stripe account is connected, go to Payouts → Business & tax info in the app to add your tax registration details:
- Select your country of tax registration.
- Choose your business tax ID type (e.g. European VAT number).
- Enter your tax ID number and save.
Your VAT status directly affects your commission rate:
- With a valid, verified EU VAT number, reverse-charge applies and your commission stays at the standard rate (no VAT added).
- Without a valid VAT number, ChefMaison has to account for VAT on our side, so a higher combined rate (commission + VAT) applies instead.
This only takes a minute to add, and your rate updates automatically once your VAT number is verified.
If Stripe isn't available in my country
Stripe payouts aren't supported everywhere — for example, chefs based in the UAE, Brazil, or South Africa are set up for bank transfer instead. You may still need to create and connect a Stripe account (it's also used to generate your invoices), but your actual payout will be arranged via manual bank transfer.
If you're unsure which setup applies to you, contact operations@chefmaison.com and we'll confirm it for your country.
Common issues when connecting Stripe
- Document upload errors (e.g. business registration documents): make sure the file is a clear, uncropped photo or scan, in PDF, JPG, or PNG format.
- Account shows as restricted or incomplete: this usually means Stripe needs one more piece of information — check the notification inside your Stripe dashboard for exactly what's missing.
- Can't find the "Connect Stripe" button: check under Payouts in your account, or try the ChefMaison website instead of the app.
💡 Setting up Stripe correctly the first time — through the link we provide, not Stripe's own site — means you'll never have to think about payouts again after that.
