# Why book through ChefMaison instead of arranging things directly with a chef?

It might seem simpler to find the chef on Instagram or google, or exchange numbers and handle everything yourselves — but here's what you'd actually be giving up.
## What ChefMaison actually does for your event
Booking through the platform isn't just a formality — it's what makes the whole experience run smoothly and safely:

* **Secure payments.** Your payment is held securely and only released to the chef after your event takes place — so you're never paying upfront into thin air with no recourse.

## Why some messages get blocked automatically

Any agreement or payment made off-platform is entirely at your own risk — it isn't covered or guaranteed by ChefMaison in any way. If anything goes wrong (a cancellation, a dispute, a no-show), we won't be able to step in, since it never went through the platform in the first place.
